Working hand-in-hand for carbon reductions

The Airport Authority (AA) and 50 airport community business partners shared their latest carbon reduction initiatives at the 3rd HKIA Carbon Management Senior Executive Roundtable Luncheon on 27 November 2018. In his welcome remarks, AA CEO Fred Lam highlighted the importance of mitigating climate change to alleviate the impacts of extreme weather conditions can have on airport operations. Keynote speaker Professor Christine Loh, Chief Development Strategist of the Division of Environment and Sustainability at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, outlined the various opportunities and challenges for HKIA's business partners in achieving long-term carbon reduction.

During the luncheon, AA CEO and Professor Loh presented 24 awards to 13 business partners for outstanding carbon reduction projects. In 2017, the airport's carbon intensity was reduced by 5.7% in 2017 relative to 2015 levels, putting the airport community well on track to achieve the target of 10% by 2020.
