Better Monitoring for HKIA’s Environmental Performance

Building on its ISO 14001-certified environmental management system, the Airport Authority’s (AA) rolled out a comprehensive and consistent monitoring programme in 2019 to monitor its supply chain and ensure their compliance with the AA’s environmental requirements in contracts and other agreements, and to drive continuous improvement.

This undertaking involves all departments within the AA, as well as the franchisees, licensees, tenants and contractors operating at HKIA. Initiatives include standardising the environmental clauses in contracts, revising the Environmental Management Plan outline which each contract requires, and conducting environmental inspections with standardised monitoring checklists. Since 2019, the AA has conducted 86 inspections and has identified numerous opportunities for environmental improvement.
