Weather Forecast for Air-conditioning Control System for energy efficiency

The Airport Authority (AA) has jointly developed a Weather Forecast for Air-conditioning Control System with CLP Power Hong Kong and Hong Kong Observatory to enhance HKIA’s energy efficiency. This system employs big data and machine learning to forecast the cooling demand of the passenger terminal over the next 24 hours and deliver the appropriate amount of cooling volume needed to eliminate unnecessary energy consumption. HKIA is the first airport to adopt this predictive control model for air conditioning system. Together with the two new chillers replaced in 2021, an estimated 5.1 GWh of electricity could be saved a year, equivalent to the annual energy consumption of nearly 1,200 CLP Power residential customers.
