HKIA Remains in Operation during Typhoon Significant Disruption to Flight Operation Anticipated over Next Two Days

(HONG KONG, 22 September 2025, 1800hrs) – Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) will continue operations when Super Typhoon Ragasa approaches Hong Kong. Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) anticipates significant disruption to flight operations at HKIA from 1800hrs on 23 September to 24 September. AAHK has been maintaining close communications and coordination with the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) and airlines, prioritising safety and seeking to address passenger needs.

AAHK advises passengers to check with their airlines for the latest flight information and proceed to the airport only when their seats and flight times are confirmed. Passengers may also visit HKIA’s website or make use of the “My HKG” mobile app for checking latest flight information.

AAHK and the airport community are fully prepared and standing by for action. The three runways at HKIA will remain operational, and the terminal building will continue to stay open. The Airport Emergency Centre will be activated, enabling various units of the airport community, including CAD and airlines, to coordinate closely to formulate and implement contingency measures. They include securing air bridges, strengthening drainage and flood prevention measures on airport roads and nearby worksites.

A temporary rest area for passengers will be set up in the terminal, equipped with chairs and mobile charging stations. The Passenger Care Team will be deployed to provide assistance to passengers and distribute essential supplies such as bottled water, snacks and blankets. A number of restaurants and shops at HKIA will continue to operate during the typhoon, with some opening 24 hours.

Land transport between the city and the airport will be affected when T8 or higher typhoon signal is in force. The Taxi Queue Ticket System will be activated for passengers to receive queue numbers via ticket kiosks or a mobile application to queue for taxis.

AAHK will provide shuttle buses for airport staff travelling between the airport and Tung Chung, and set up staff rest areas to maintain adequate staffing for airport operations and passenger services.
