Sustainability Report 2024/25 Released with AAHK Recognised as Top-Rated ESG Performer

(Hong Kong, 29 August 2025, 1130hrs) – Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) today released its Sustainability Report 2024/25, outlining the sustainability performance of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) in the fiscal year ending 31 March 2025.

Recognised as a "2025 Top-Rated ESG Performer" by Sustainalytics, a well-established rating company, AAHK has continued to implement its Ascend sustainability strategy, focusing on 24 strategic goals across four sustainability pillars, including Environmental Excellence, Operational Excellence, Thriving Economies and Societies, and Thriving People.

Highlights of this year’s Sustainability Report include:

Environmental Excellence

  • AAHK supported the establishment of the 2,400-hectare North Lantau Marine Park, the eighth and largest marine park in Hong Kong, creating a large, protected area for Chinese White Dolphins and other marine life and fisheries resources.
  • A one-year Renewable Diesel (RD) Pilot Project was completed, with AAHK and eight additional business partners launching or planning their own RD pilots.
  • AAHK completed the first three-year HKIA Carbon Capacity Building Programme, engaging around 450 airport community participants through expertise-sharing sessions and for participating companies, and more.
  • AAHK adopted cutting-edge building analytics technology for the air handling units at Terminal 1, with an 3.5% estimated reduction in annual energy

Operational Excellence

  • The world’s first Smartphone Express Bag Drop Service was launched, enabling passengers to complete online check-in and scan their travel documents using their smartphones before heading to HKIA. Upon arrival at the airport, they can complete self-bag drop with their smartphones in under one minute.
  • AAHK introduced a new smart security screening system, enabling passengers to keep their electronic devices, liquids, aerosols and gels in their carry-on luggage, enhancing passenger experience, operational efficiency.

Thriving Economies and Societies

  • The Three-runway System was successfully commissioned with all three runways operating simultaneously, strengthening HKIA’s position as an international aviation hub and catering for Hong Kong’s long-term air traffic demand.
  • A dividend of HK$1,300 million payable to the Hong Kong SAR Government was declared. It is the first dividend payment since 2014/15.
  • SKYTOPIA, a new brand for HKIA’s enlarged Airport City, was unveiled, featuring projects that captialise the unique advantages of Hong Kong and leverage the land and marine resources near HKIA.
  • Expanded city terminal network to 30 locations in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), providing real-time flight information, and facilitating seamless travel for GBA residents through HKIA’s robust connectivity.
  • Advanced development of HKIA Dongguan Logistics Park (HKIALP) began, with a permanent facility for HKIALP is expected to be fully operational in 2027.

Thriving People

  • AAHK began recruiting candidates for a two-year Information Technology Trainee Programme designed to support HKIA’s digital transformation.
  • 85,621 hours of in-person and online training were conducted, including talks by senior management and guest speakers to encourage continuous learning and keep staff informed about important developments.
