(Hong Kong, 26 May 2025, 1430hrs) – The expanded Terminal 2 (T2) at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) will commence operations in phases starting on 23 September this year. The first passenger facility to open at T2 is the indoor Coach Hall, with 41 parking spaces for tour buses, cross-boundary coaches and limousines, and resident coaches.
The ticketing counters and boarding points for cross-boundary coaches and limousines, currently at Terminal 1 and Car Park 4 respectively, and the tour bus boarding spaces in Car Park 1 will be relocated to the Coach Hall in T2. The tour bus boarding spaces in Car Park 1 will be released for catering to the increasing usage demand at Car Park 1. These arrangements are expected to help ease traffic at Terminal 1 during peak times.
After the Coach Hall, the next phase of T2 opening will be the departure facilities, including check-in counters and related facilities, which is scheduled in the early part of the second quarter next year, to be followed by other remaining facilities in phases.
Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) will continue to work closely with relevant government departments, airlines, passenger handling agents and other relevant airport stakeholders on the preparatory work for T2 commissioning, including familiarisation and training, to ensure smooth operation. Drills and exercises will also be arranged to practise and test the contingency and emergency response plans.
The expanded T2 will provide full-fledged passenger services for both arrivals and departures. Since the commencement of the 3RS operation in November 2024, AAHK has been gearing up with business partners on the commissioning of the new passenger facilities in phases in light of passenger traffic demand.
