(HONG KONG, 15 April 2023, 2130hrs)  –  The "World of Winners" air ticket giveaway campaign, sponsored by Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), landed on the Chinese Mainland today with a spectacular celebration event held in Shanghai. Over 1,000 people attended the launch event, which featured Hong Kong cultural performances and on-site games with more than 100 free air tickets given away as prizes. The event was officiated by Mr Fred Lam, Chief Executive Officer of AAHK.

World of Winners was created to support the Hong Kong SAR Government’s “Hello Hong Kong” promotional campaign welcoming visitors back to the city following the lifting of anti-pandemic restrictions. AAHK has sponsored 500,000 tickets for home-based carriers to offer travellers from around the world, including 140,000 for Mainland travellers.

In addition to celebrating the resumption of passenger air traffic to Hong Kong, attendees at the Shanghai launch event learned about a wide range of new airport facilities designed to provide a brand-new, better-than-ever passenger experience and maintain Hong Kong International Airport’s (HKIA) standing as the most preferred airport for Mainland travellers. Several influential opinion leaders were also invited to share their experiences at HKIA. The event was covered by major media outlets, including three online platforms, which broadcast the event across the country to reach residents in Shanghai and beyond and encourage them to take part in the air ticket giveaway campaign.

Fred Lam, Chief Executive Officer of AAHK, said, "HKIA is the city’s gateway to the world, and all of us in the airport community fully support the Government’s ‘Hello Hong Kong’ promotional campaign. We are delighted to sponsor the tickets for our home-based carriers and offer people from across the globe a chance to rediscover all the things they love about Hong Kong. We are particularly excited to allocate 140,000 air tickets for Mainland travellers, who have long been an important and valued segment of inbound passenger traffic to Hong Kong. It is important to note that despite the severe challenges of the pandemic, we never stopped in our quest to develop HKIA into an ‘Airport City’, and many of these projects have now been completed. We have full confidence in the future of Hong Kong and HKIA, and with the on-going support of the Central Government, Hong Kong's aviation industry is going to enjoy even more opportunities to flourish."

Separately, AAHK also hosted a media event in Shanghai to introduce the details of the World of Winners air ticket giveaway campaign to over 30 media organisations from Shanghai and surrounding areas. Other topics of the media event included new airport facilities, development plans and details of the Airport City strategy.
