(HONG KONG, 21 December 2022, 2030hrs)  –  Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) today received a delegation of Thailand’s BTS Group Holdings Public Company Limited (BTS Group) at a visit to Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). The BTS Group has won the bid to develop the U-Tapao International Airport and Eastern Airport City Development Project near Bangkok.

Led by Keeree Kanjanapas, Chairman of BTS Group and Kavin Kanjanapas, Chief Executive Officer of BTS Group, the delegation was received by Jack So, Chairman of AAHK, Fred Lam, Chief Executive Officer of AAHK, and members of the senior management of AAHK.

The delegation visited several key facilities at HKIA, including the new Integrated Airport Centre, the revamped Terminal 1 and AsiaWorld-Expo, and received a briefing on the Airport City developments.

The delegation was briefed during the visit that the new third runway has been commissioned on time and within budget this year, and the entire Three-runway System project is targeted to be completed in 2024, while other Airport City projects are proceeding full steam.

The two sides also discussed during the visit the possibility of collaborations in the future.

Mr So says, "HKIA has long been sharing its expertise and experience with other airports through exchanges and consultancy service. We are also taking part in the management of airports in the Mainland, including Zhuhai, Hangzhou and Shanghai, which have seen great success in their operation and business. We believe our expertise and experience in airport design, construction and management, as well as commercial development, will be useful to Thailand and other Belt & Road countries."

Mr So met the BTS Group during his visit to Thailand together with the Hong Kong business delegation in November, during which he invited the BTS Group to visit HKIA.

Hong Kong and Thailand have strong track records on collaboration on infrastructure projects. While Mr So was chairman of MTR Corporation, the corporation had provided consultancy service to the BTS Group on the development of the elevated monorail mass transit system.
