Update on Prohibited and Restricted Zones on Airport Island

(HONG KONG, 6 December 2019) – In light of the recent developments and operational needs at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), the prohibited and restricted zones at the airport have been updated with effect from 6 December 2019. The relevant legislative amendments, made under the Road Traffic (Traffic Control) (Designation of Prohibited and Restricted Zones) (Amendment) Notice 2019, were gazetted on 11 October 2019.

As part of the update, the following major amendments to the Prohibited Zones have been made:

  • part of the original prohibited zones at Kwo Lo Wan Road are now open to all motor vehicles to facilitate the new development there
  • the new Coach Station is relocated to an area next to Car Park 1 and remains as prohibited zone to maintain smooth coach operation
  • the plan showing all designated roads at Chek Lap Kok is also updated in view of the completion of construction works for Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

Moreover, the following major amendments to the Restricted Zones have been made:

  • the extent of the restricted zones of Cheong Hong Road are revised as a result of the extension of drop-off area at Terminal 1
  • the extent of the restricted zones at South Perimeter Road, East Coast Road, Chek Lap Kok South Road and Tung Fai Road are revised in view of the completion of construction works for Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) has consulted stakeholders of the relevant industry on the amendments and will continue to provide update and collect feedback. The AA will also provide details of the amendments to the public through the HKIA website and the “HKG My Flight” mobile app.
