(HONG KONG, 24 January 2017) – Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) Gift Donation Campaign 2017 came to a successful finale today, gathering over 62,000 gifts for the underprivileged children and family. This is the fourth year that HKIA has held the campaign, which Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) again teamed up with Link Asset Management Limited (Link) and The Salvation Army Hong Kong and Macau Command in organising the event. Gift collection boxes were placed at HKIA Terminal 1 and 10 Link’s shopping centres from 3 to 22 January 2017.

A gift handover ceremony was held today to mark the closing of this meaningful event. Vivian Cheung, Deputy Director, Airport Operations, AA;  Joyce Yu, Head of Corporate Communications, Link; and Envoy Simon Wong, Community Relations Director, The Salvation Army Hong Kong and Macau Command officiated the ceremony.

During the ceremony, Mrs Cheung expressed her gratitude towards the support and assistance that Link and The Salvation Army offered.  Mrs Cheung said, “We are delighted and encouraged to see the overwhelming response and generous donations from the airport community, members of the public and worldwide travellers. AA cares much on the community needs while we strive to provide passengers with a pleasant and memorable airport experience. Looking forward, we will continue to explore and support on various meaningful community and social services and activities and hope that the airport community and the public can tender their unwavering support.”

Ms Yu said, “Link is committed to serving the community and advancing our city’s sustainable development. The placement of donation boxes at 10 of Link’s major shopping centres has enabled more members of the public to support the 2017 donation campaign. The overwhelming response and support from our tenants and shoppers in the different districts demonstrate that Link’s network of shopping centres provides the strong social cohesion that links local neighbourhoods and communities to a brighter future.”

Envoy Simon Wong is delighted that AA and Link have tendered tremendous support to The Salvation Army over the past three years. Envoy Simon Wong said, “Last year, more than 1,600 people, including grassroots children, senior citizens and the homeless people benefited from this campaign. The gifts have become a magic key to open the hearts of the needy, help our frontline staff to reach them and give them a helping hand. I believe this year’s campaign will be another success to help more people in need.”

The impressive number of gifts received includes apparel, food, stationery and toys. They will be distributed to underprivileged children and their families by The Salvation Army Hong Kong and Macau Command as to extend care for them and share the festive joys during the Chinese New Year.
