Airport Authority Gearing Up for Consultation on Master Plan 2030

(HONG KONG, 9 June 2011) – Following the recent launch of its three-month public consultation on the Hong Kong International Airport Master Plan 2030 (Master Plan 2030), Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) today unveiled an exhibition on the development blueprint at Terminal 2, which is open to the public from now till 2 September.

As part of the consultation, a series of engagement activities including an industry seminar, three public forums and more than 60 briefings and meetings for various stakeholder groups will also be held over the coming three months. Stakeholders include business partners, green groups, fishermen representatives, the wider business sector, professional bodies, local residents, think tanks, youth groups and more.

AAHK will hold the industry seminar on 10 June at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) to gather feedback from the aviation, logistics and tourism sectors. AAHK senior management, including Chairman Dr Marvin Cheung Kin-tung and Chief Executive Officer Stanley Hui Hon-chung, will exchange views with key business partners and representatives from related industries on the airport's development.

To gather the public's feedback on Master Plan 2030, AAHK will then host three public forums on 11 June, 19 June and 2 July. AAHK Chief Executive Officer Stanley Hui said he hopes both the public and other stakeholders will actively participate in the Master Plan 2030 consultation. "The airport is part of the fabric of Hong Kong's economic growth and overall competitiveness. As it is expected to reach capacity around 2020, we need to decide very soon what should be done to maintain its competitiveness. We sincerely hope that the public can provide us with their invaluable views on the airport's development direction so that we can best serve the long-term interests of Hong Kong."

The Terminal 2 exhibition will run concurrently with a roving exhibition that will show at various high-traffic venues, including the HKCEC. It is open to the public from 1100 to 2000 hours daily between 9 June and 2 September. Members of the public are welcome to visit the exhibitions to gain a better understanding of the proposed airport expansion plans, including air traffic demand forecasts, development options, potential economic contributions, estimated costs and environmental considerations. Two interactive models are also available to show the envisaged airport layouts under the two-runway and three-runway development options, such as necessary apron, terminal and aviation support facilities to ensure efficient airport operations and high-quality service.

Other than the exhibitions, forums and seminars, members of the public can browse the Master Plan 2030 website and other online platforms such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter for more information. Three sets of Master Plan 2030 documents providing varying depths of detail about the development options, eight short, informative videos, and information about the exhibitions and public forums are provided on the website. Members of the public are also encouraged to express their views by filling in a questionnaire which is available at the exhibitions and on the website.
