HKIA Showcases Works of World-acclaimed Photographer, Kan Hing-fook

(HONG KONG, 20 July 2007) - To provide passengers with a dynamic and pleasant experience, Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) today launched a photo exhibition of Mr Kan Hing-fook, an internationally acclaimed photographer.  Themed as the Palette of Lights and Colours, the exhibition showcases 30 famous works of Mr Kan.

Mr Howard Eng, Airport Management Director of Airport Authority Hong Kong, said display of artistic works would add to the airport experience of millions of passengers travelling to and from Hong Kong. "Airport is more than a place for people to embark and disembark. We hope all passengers would find travelling through Hong Kong an enjoyable experience," added Mr Eng.

The photo exhibition, located at the departure hall of Aisles A and K, Terminal 1 of HKIA, will be shown till the end of this September.

Born in Kong Kong in 1921, Mr Kan Hing-fook studied painting in Shanghai School of Fine Arts under Liu Haisu and Zhang Chongren, the world famous art masters. Mr Kan obtained the honour of being a cornerstone member of Photographic Society of America and received his first award in the International Photographic Salon in Singapore when he aged only 30.  Water Palette, one of his famed photos, was granted Gold Medal Award of the VIII International Salon Photographic Exhibition in 1954, making him the first Chinese receiving the award. The photo was also chosen as a classic photographic work in China in the 20th century by the National Cultural Promoting Commission of the Ministry of Culture.

Mr Kan travelled throughout China and the world including those deserted mountainous area and remote villages to capture the natural scenery and human stories.

In addition to the photo exhibition, HKIA has started a two-month programme with a wide range of family- and children-focused activities including magic shows, handicraft workshops, nail painting, story telling, balloon art, temporary tattoos and more.
