2005/03/26

(Hong Kong, 26 March 2005) - The "2005 Organic Planting Competition for Primary and Secondary Schools in Hong Kong", jointly organized by Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA), Environmental Protection Department, Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre of Baptist University and Produce Green Foundation, was held today at Band Stand, Victoria Park.

The competition was divided into primary and secondary school groups. Each group competed in five categories, namely Longest Produce Award, Heaviest Produce Award, Best Flower Award, Best Composting Award and Creative Pot Design Award. More than 100 schools participated in the competition and over 270 pots of plant were received.

The competition aims at encouraging students' participation in organic planting and enhancing their awareness of waste reduction. This initiative formed a part of AA's continuous pledge of promoting good environmental practices and providing a lush and vibrant green environment at the Hong Kong International Airport. Apart from planting seasonal plants and flowers, AA has conducted organic planting on a trial basis.
