2004/12/06

(Hong Kong, 6 December 2004) - Artworks of 18 local renowned artists are on showcase at the passenger terminal of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). New landscape features and a range of innovative products have also added congeniality to the airport environment.

Chief Executive Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA), Dr David J Pang, said these latest attractions will enrich the airport experience for international passengers travelling through HKIA.

"Being a popular transfer hub in the region, we are glad that our airport presents an opportunity for global travellers to appreciate the rich cultural vivacity of Hong Kong," he added.

Artworks on display along the central walkway of the passenger terminal include wood and metal sculptures, pottery and stone-wares by prominent local sculptors and ceramicists.

In the vicinity of these artwork displays, new green features including planters and flowerbeds have been added. At the west end of the passenger terminal, a "Hong Kong Design Showcase" mini-gallery displays some of the most creative and vibrant product designs of Hong Kong. All these form part of AA's continuous efforts to bring a pleasant and memorable experience to passengers.

At the Launch Ceremony of "Colours of Hong Kong International Airport", Honorary Advisor of Green Fun Mrs Betty Tung said, "I will tell you what I see might not have been here two years ago. I see planters and trees pleasing to my eyes. I see seating areas pleasing to our travellers' tired legs. I see inspiring exquisite artwork and products pleasing to our minds."
