(HONG KONG, 22 October 2003) - Transaero Airlines’ Boeing-767 touched down at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) this week, bringing the number of international airlines flying here to 75.
The second Russian airline to serve Hong Kong after Aeroflot, Transaero was established in 1991 as the country’s first private airline.
The new weekly service links HKIA with Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport, from where passengers can transfer to the carrier’s regional flights to other cities in the former USSR. Transaero also operates scheduled services to the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Israel, Thailand, Cyprus and the Maldives.
Airport Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr David J Pang welcomed Transaero’s arrival: “We are always ready to accommodate new airlines at HKIA – more airlines give air travellers more choice.”
Dr Pang said the new service would help reinforce the industry’s confidence in Hong Kong as a major international hub and the single most popular destination in Asia.
