(HONG KONG, 20 June, 2002) - The Airport Authority (AA) has received a good response from developers who have submitted Expressions of Interest for a multi-purpose transport interchange at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).
An Invitation for Expressions of Interest went out on 19 April and closed at noon today.
"We are very satisfied with the response," AA Commercial Director Mr Hans Bakker said. Submissions have come from local and overseas developers.
"The invitation is only the first step before the concept can materialise. The exercise will help us better understand how the market thinks this can be taken further. We'll now study the submissions carefully and diligently before deciding the next step."
The multi-purpose development, to be called SkyPlaza, will feature a range of facilities for passengers and other airport users, as well as office accommodation. There will be a special emphasis on tour groups and passengers travelling to or from the Mainland, offering dedicated amenities such as group check-in facilities and a tour coach station.
SkyPlaza will be one of the key developments of SkyCity, the 57-hectare commercial district that will also feature Hong Kong's second exhibition centre.
