(HONG KONG, 29 October 2002) – The Airport Authority (AA) today welcomed the inaugural flight of Turkish Airlines' new service to Hong Kong from Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey. The airline will provide services on Tuesdays and Sundays via Bangkok.
The inaugural flight touched down at 1630 hours local time. A Chinese ceremonial lion dance provided a spectacular greeting for VIPs and other passengers from Turkey.
AA Chief Executive Officer Dr David J Pang welcomed the airline to Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), saying the new service would provide useful new links to many cities throughout Turkey, Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Commonwealth of Independent States, the Middle East and North Africa.
"We welcome Turkish Airlines to HKIA," Dr Pang said. "They bring with them an extensive route network that offers many new destinations to our travellers."
"As an airport operator, we aim to develop more destinations and frequencies, providing convenient and efficient connections for airport users. The latest addition of Istanbul to our route network is a good example of initiatives the AA has taken to offer better services."
