New "Pick-me-up" parking plan at HKIA

(HONG KONG, 23 October 1999) -- From 25 October private cars may take advantage of a 30-minute grace period offered by all three public car parks at Hong Kong International Airport to collect arriving passengers.

This is one of several new measures introduced by the Airport Authority (AA) to ease passenger movement throughout the airport. The 30-minute time limit will be diligently observed and drivers are advised to plan accordingly, as normal parking fees will apply if the time limit is exceeded.

To streamline traffic flow, the AA continues to encourage drivers to drop off departing passengers at the drop-off kerb. However they can still make use of the complimentary parking period if their vehicles remain in the car parks no longer than 30 minutes.

The new "Pick-me-up" parking plan is mainly for the convenience of arriving passengers. It complements the parking concessions introduced on 19 August for people who wish to leave their vehicles at the airport for longer periods. Launched as a pilot scheme to appeal to air travellers who plan to be out of town for several days, the special daily rates have proven particularly attractive. It also introduced a new half-hourly rate which has proved very popular and has since become a permanent feature. Drivers who subscribe for a 3-month or longer duration parking ticket can also enjoy a 20% discount.

All car parks are located within a few minutes walking distance of the terminal building and drivers can choose to park either in the open or undercover in the multi-storey car park. Car parks are manned 24 hours a day and baggage trolleys are available.

Parking fees under the new parking plans:

Car parks 1 and 2

Up to 30 minutes -- No charge

Over 30 minutes and up to 1 hour -- $13

Over 1 hour and up to 1.5 hours -- $20

Over 1.5 hours and up 2 hours -- $26

After 2 hours, every 30 minutesor part thereof -- $7

After 2 hours, every 1 hour -- $13

1 day -- $90

2 days -- $50 per day

3 days and beyond -- $40 per day

Car park 4 (Multi-storey)

Up to 30 minutes -- No charge

Over 30 minutes and up to 1 hour -- $16

Over 1 hour and up to 1.5 hours -- $24

Over 1.5 hours and up 2 hours -- $32

After 2 hours, every 30 minutesor part thereof - $8

After 2 hours, every 1 hour -- $16

1 day --$110

2 days -- $60 per day

3 days and beyond -- $45 per day
