(HONG KONG, 24 October 1997) -- Efficient and reasonably-priced left luggage services will be available when Hong Kong's new airport at Chek Lap Kok opens in 1998, it was announced today.
The Airport Authority (AA) has awarded the left luggage service licence to Guardforce Limited. The facility will be situated in the arrivals hall of the passenger terminal.
"Like all other retail and catering facilities at Hong Kong SkyMart -- the world-class airport retail complex inside the passenger terminal -- we are pleased that this important service to travellers will be easily available and provided at reasonable rates," said AA General Manager - Retail Mr Fred Chiu.
"The general 1998 rates for the facility will be well below the rates currently charged at Kai Tak. In addition, a 3-hour storage service will be introduced to provide better customer service and to facilitate short-term users, such as departing passengers who arrive early for their flights, or standby passengers who stay longer hours at the airport and might need to use the left luggage service. Without the burden of luggage, these passengers will find themselves with more freedom to shop and dine at Hong Kong SkyMart," Mr Chiu added.
Guardforce Limited was established in Hong Kong in 1977 and it has experience in many airports in the Asia Pacific region, providing aviation security services, left luggage facilities, departure tax collection and cargo related services.
In addition to the left luggage service, licences have already been awarded for 140 retail and catering outlets at Hong Kong SkyMart at Chek Lap Kok. These will ensure that a comprehensive range of services is available to make the new airport experience a fine and memorable one for users.
