(HONG KONG, 11 June 1997) -- The Governor, the Rt Hon Christopher Patten, today visited Hong Kong's new airport at Chek Lap Kok.
Mr Patten flew from Hong Kong International Airport at Kai Tak on a Government Flying Service Beech Super King Air, which landed on the southern runway at 3pm. He was greeted by Airport Authority Chairman Mr Wong Po-yan, AA Vice-chairman Mr Lo Chung-hing, AA Chief Executive Officer Dr Henry Townsend, New Airport Projects Co-ordination Office Director Mr Billy Lam Chung-lun and Director of Civil Aviation Mr Richard Siegel.
He visited the Civil Aviation Department's Air Traffic Control Complex and Tower, and was shown baggage check-in facilities in the Departures Hall of the passenger terminal.
The Governor returned to the city by road via the Lantau Link and Western Harbour Crossing.
