(HONG KONG, 9 May 1997) -- The Airport Authority (AA) today signed two sub-leases with Cathay Pacific to build a flight training centre and a stores building at the new airport at Chek Lap Kok. Total investment amounts to HK$900 million (US$115.38m).
The twin developments, adjacent to Cathay's new headquarters near the southern headland, although not part of the opening phase works of the new airport project, will be completed soon after airport opening. Construction will commence as soon as the AA hands over the site to Cathay in mid-May 1997. The sub-leases, like that of Cathay's headquarters development signed with the AA in May 1996, will last until 2047.
With a gross floor area of 16,500 square metres, the flight training centre will house simulators for training flight crew and a flight operations safety training school. Cabin and cockpit crew from the Cathay group will benefit from the facilities.
Cathay will transfer its eight simulators from Kai Tak. The building will also house aircraft cabin mock-ups with inflatable emergency slides, classrooms and supporting offices.
Besides, Cathay will build a stores building with a gross floor area of 9,290 square metres.
