(HONG KONG, 20 February 1997) -- The Airport Authority (AA) today welcomed the first landing at the new airport at Chek Lap Kok.
"The first landing shows we are well on track to open the new airport in April 1998," said AA Chairman Mr Wong Po-yan after the Government Flying Service's twin engine Beech Super King Air touched down on the Southern Runway this afternoon.
"The new airport will feature one of the finest airfields in the world, designed to operate around the clock with two runways equipped with state-of-the-art landing systems. It will accommodate future generations of ultra-large aircraft."
