1996/11/28

(HONG KONG, 28 November 1996) --- The Airport Authority (AA) has awarded the first contract for the northwest concourse extension associated with the new second runway at the new airport.

The contract, worth HK$137.5 million (US$17.6m), was awarded to Franki Contractors Ltd, of Hong Kong, and is for piling works for the passenger terminal building's northwest concourse.

It comprises the piled foundations, including installation and testing of driven steel H piles, construction and testing of concrete bored piles, and protection and maintenance of temporary services within the site.

These works are to be completed in a manner enabling a phased handover for the building phase.

Meanwhile, the AA has also awarded a contract for the construction and maintenance of storage for aircraft recovery equipment and for the airfield ground maintenance building.

The contract, worth HK$128 million (US$16.4m), went to Dickson-China Harbour Joint Venture, of Hong Kong.

Works under this contract include the construction and maintenance of the two buildings, incorporating the detailed design of their roofing systems, certain building services and associated electrical and mechanical works for the two buildings.

The airfield ground maintenance building will be built next to the western quay of the airfield, between the two runways, and will house airfield maintenance equipment and supplies.

The aircraft recovery equipment storage will be located next to the Southern Rescue and Fire Fighting Station. It will house emergency supplies and specialised equipment for handling disabled aircraft.
