Cherry Blossom Garden on Airport Island Opens

The Cherry Blossom Garden on Airport Island is open to the public from today (29 January 2026).
The garden has further expanded this year, with a new area extending along the Tung Chung Bay waterfront. It features 39 newly planted cherry blossom trees and trails, providing visitors with a more spacious environment and more angles to capture the beauty of the blossoms.
The cherry blossom trees, called "Haoyunlai," are from Guangzhou. They are characterised by dense buds and bright pink petals, with strong heat resistance, making them well-suited to Hong Kong’s weather and environment. The blooming period lasts about one to two weeks.
To make access to the Cherry Blossom Garden easier, Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) has added a new footpath this year on Chek Lap Kok South Road. The new path shortens the distance between Tung Chung MTR Station and the Cherry Blossom Garden by about 200 metres. Pedestrians no longer need to cross any road or use stairs, making the journey to the garden safer and more convenient.
AAHK set up the Cherry Blossom Garden in 2023 at the foot of Scenic Hill on Airport Island. It soon proves to be very popular and has since expanded each year. There are now a total of 160 cherry blossom trees in the entire area.
Steven Yiu, Executive Director, Airport Operations of AAHK, said: “In line with the development of the 'Airport City,' AAHK put forward a comprehensive landscape enhancement initiative on Airport Island, including planting ornamental flowers and trees at various locations. This not only beautifies the environment but also provides great leisure spots for the public. In addition to the Cherry Blossom Garden, the 'Yellow Trumpet Tree Trail' is also very popular with the public and photography enthusiasts. We recently introduced the 'Purple Trumpet Tree Trail', adding to the variety of flowers and trees for visitors to enjoy year-round on Airport Island.”
