Dedication and Tenacity in Time of Pandemic

06  August  2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected air traffic at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). Despite the challenging environment, members of the airport community continue to demonstrate dedication and tenacity, contributing in their respective roles to ensure that HKIA is clean, and safe, that airport operations are smooth, and that arrangements are in place for the implementation of government measures. Some colleagues recently shared their thoughts and experience during this unprecedented time.

Hing-cheung Tsang/Airfield Operations

“During the pandemic, the airport is not as busy as before. However, members of the airport community continue to work diligently to ensure smooth operations. From our marshallers to service providers, we have all given our best.”

Candy Choy/Customer Service

“The questions most frequently asked by passengers are where to buy anti-pandemic supplies such as masks, hand sanitiser and the latest flight information. At our daily briefings, we provide the most up-to-date information to our colleagues.”

Garrie Yan/ New Technologies for Disinfection Management

“In the midst of this severe outbreak, learning about new technologies and applying them at HKIA in a short period of time is an immense challenge. We want every user, staff member and passenger to be able to use airport facilities with peace of mind.”

Hui-yun Zhang/Cleaning Staff

“We have stepped up cleaning from once every two hours to once every hour now, hoping to reduce the risk of infection.”

Julie Chung/Government’s Chartered Flight Inflight Service

"That was the first time I put on full personal protective equipment in my 32 years of career here. I hope I can see passengers fly happily again very soon without having to wear a face mask.”

As always the entire HKIA community will spare no effort in ensuring a safe environment at the airport and provide passengers with service of the highest standards.
