Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) reaches out to maintain active dialogue with stakeholders including the Neighbouring Community, Wider Hong Kong Community, Business/ Industry and Professional Bodies, and Statutory Bodies – allowing us to better understand their views, and to update them on HKIA’s development plans through briefings, seminars, exhibitions, airport visits and marine site tours.
The Airport Authority (AA) places great importance on communication with our neighbouring community. Five Community Liaison Groups (CLGs) have been established since 2012, consisting of district councillors and community leaders in HKIA’s neighbouring districts, namely: Islands, Kwai Tsing, Shatin, Tsuen Wan and Tuen Mun. The AA leverages CLGs to exchange views with the community on the latest airport developments, as well as to update community leaders and seek their views. Please click here for meeting details.
In addition, the AA also engages local fishermen through a range of activities, including airport/ marine site tours, briefings and outreach talks. In 2016/17, we stepped up these efforts by establishing a Fisheries Enhancement Fund and a Marine Ecology Enhancement Fund to fund initiatives proposed by the fishery sector, NGOs, and other related parties.
Demonstrating our care for the neighbouring community, we hosted spring dinners for the elderly in Tuen Mun and Tung Chung. We also fostered arts development in the community as we welcomed teenage artists in Tung Chung to participate in the “HK Territory-wide Youths Painting Day” to create artwork celebrating the spirit of HKIA.
To strengthen ties with the local community, the AA arranges airport visits for resident groups – building understanding about the operation and development of HKIA. We have hosted briefings for District Councillors, NGOs and other committee members on the progress of three-runway system (3RS) Project, the enhancement of the existing two-runway system and HKIA’s environmental measures, followed by a tour of the airport's facilities.
The airport also hosts job fairs and career expos in various districts to promote career opportunities at the airport. As part of these events, we also hold exhibitions introducing HKIA and its future development to provide job seekers with a better understanding of the aviation industry, increasing their chances of success at job interviews.

The Professional Liaison Group comprises relevant professionals/ experts to facilitate communications, enquiries and complaints handling of all environmental issues related to the 3RS project. As such, the group receives relevant project information including construction progress, as well as environmental monitoring and audit results. Please click here for meeting details.
The AA also organises various briefings, airport visits and works area visits for industry associations, chambers and professional bodies to elicit their views on airport development and to keep them abreast of the latest and future developments at HKIA. We also host Green Group Roundtable meetings to facilitate exchange of opinions on the environmental issues related to the 3RS project.
In addition, the AA values views and perspectives from think tanks and academics. Meanwhile, AA management actively speaks at conferences and seminars to introduce ideas and seek feedback before launching major projects such as the 3RS project and the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy. Establishing regular communication platforms with relevant groups allows the AA to better understand stakeholders’ views on how to address HKIA’s challenges, and collectively identify possible solutions.
The AA is committed to open and effective communication. We consistently reach out to promote the 3RS project and conduct regular briefings – as well as airport visits – for statutory bodies, including members of the Legislative Council and the political parties. In addition to meetings with the Subcommittee to Follow Up Issues Relating to the Three-runway System at the Hong Kong International Airport, AA also hosts airport visits for the Subcommittee members, such as a recent site visit to the 3RS reclamation work area, to enable legislators to better understand the Deep Cement Mixing reclamation method. We also hold briefings at the airport for political parties and their young member committees to exchange views on HKIA’s development and the progress of 3RS construction.
The AA has been providing updated information and conducting in-depth discussions with members of the Advisory Council on the Environment (ACE), with an aim to address their concerns and take their valuable comments under serious consideration. The AA also studies the conditions and recommendations made by the ACE in its endorsement of the Environmental Impact Assessment report.
