Flight Token is a self-service biometric identification system that gives passengers a seamless departure journey at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). It enables passengers to pass through various departure checkpoints – from bag drop to security checks and boarding – by simply showing their faces, and without having to present their travel documents and boarding passes.
Passengers aged 11 or above who hold electronic travel documents can enjoy the Flight Token experience starting from check-in. Passengers aged 11 or above who hold non-electronic travel documents may register for Flight Token at the Assisted Channels of e-Security Gates.

Check-in Counters or Smart Check-in Kiosks
A Flight Token will be created for departing passengers after they complete check-in procedures at a Check-in Counter or Smart Check-in Kiosk. This biometric token contains their travel document and boarding pass information.
For passengers using the Smart Check-in Kiosks*, the entire Flight Token journey is currently available when they travel to selected destinations with participating airlines. Passengers flying with other airlines may register for Flight Token at e-Security Gates (see Step 3 below).
Self Bag Drop
All self bag drop counters are equipped with biometric cameras. Once you have verified your identity by scanning your face at the camera, you can complete the self bag drop process* by following the guidelines on the counters’ touchscreen displays.
NEW: Smartphone Express Bag Drop
Passengers who complete online check-in and scan their travel documents using the participating airlines’ mobile apps before arriving at HKIA can proceed directly to the Smartphone Express Bag Drop counters upon their arrival at the airport. They can drop off their bags without visiting airline counters or Smart Check-in Kiosks.
E-Security Gates
When entering the Airport Restricted Area, passengers who have enrolled for Flight Token can pass through the e-Security Gates by simply scanning their faces at the camera for identity verification. Other passengers can still enrol for Flight Token by scanning their travel documents and boarding passes at the e-Security Gates, in order to enjoy a faster boarding experience afterwards.
Flight Token e-Channels
After passing through e-Security Gates, passengers who have enrolled for Flight Token can complete the immigration departure clearance process by scanning their faces at the cameras located at the Immigration Department’s Flight Token e-Channels. This service is currently available for Hong Kong residents holding a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) passport, a HKSAR Document of Identity for Visa Purposes, or an electronic Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents.
E-Boarding Gates
Board your flight by simply scanning your face at the cameras at e-Boarding Gates for identity verification.
*Passengers acceptance at Smart Check-in Kiosks or baggage acceptance at self bag drop counters is subject to the individual policy of participating airlines and subject to change without prior notice.
