Hong Kong Kids Ocean Week

About the project

Hong Kong Kids Ocean Week aims to strengthen the understanding among Hong Kong students and the community on the importance of ocean protection and its ecosystem.

Kids Ocean Day was held on 9 November 2012. The first part of the event was school assemblies held at six international schools prior to the beach event in the afternoon. Over 600 school children ranging from 7 to 15 years old attended these assemblies. The importance and protection of the ocean and personal actions focusing on pollution/waste prevention were shared during the assemblies.

In the afternoon, over 800 children and volunteers from 14 schools (10 local and 4 international schools) gathered at Repulse Bay Beach and attended a short class on ocean protection. The core of the event was the creation of a large art exhibit of dolphin to be viewed from the air. It was created by the students sitting in the sand, forming the word “Ocean” in Chinese, and "Protection" in English.

The event received wide media coverage in Hong Kong and at least 15 other countries, with a positive message to our community on ocean protection.
