HKIA Makes Itself Typhoon-ready

15  May  2023

The Airport Authority (AA) successfully ran the typhoon readiness exercise Summer Blow 2023 on 10 March, aiming to strengthen HKIA’s preparedness to deal with potential disruptions caused by typhoons.

The drill involved about 450 participants from the airport community, including Hong Kong Observatory, Hong Kong Police Force, Hong Kong St. John Ambulance, Aviation Security Company Limited, local carriers, ground and ramp handling agents, and more. A variety of simulated scenarios tested contingency plans under adverse weather conditions, from crowd management and baggage handling, flight information dissemination and airfield typhoon contingencies, to flight rescheduling and land transport arrangement. The Airport Emergency Centre was also activated to ensure effective coordination, communication and information sharing among all parties.
