Successful Trial of Pearl Farming

Airport Authority's (AA) Fisheries Enhancement Fund (FEF) has funded two projects: The Pearl Farming Pilot Project and The Continuation of Pearl Farming cum Ecotourism Project by the Aberdeen Fisherwomen Association, which have been successfully completed, resulting in more than 13,000 pearls being harvested.

The projects provided fishermen with the opportunity to learn the skills and processes involved in pearl farming and ecotourism, offering them an alternative livelihood. The harvested pearls were donated to various beneficiaries, including Ocean Park Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Society for the Blind, Benji's Centre and more, to promote the local fisheries industry.

Established by AA in 2017 in accordance with the conditions of the Environmental Permit for the Three-runway System project, the FEF aims to support the sustainable development of the fisheries industry and enhance fisheries resources.
