New Airport-wide Long-term Carbon Target

30  December  2021

The Airport Authority (AA) recently unveiled the target and strategy to achieve Net Zero Carbon by 2050 at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), with a midpoint target of 55% reduction of absolute emissions by 2035 from a 2018 baseline. To achieve the midpoint target, the AA has formulated a carbon management action plan which aims to reduce direct emissions at the airport and indirect emissions from consumption of electricity and gas. The AA also works closely with the airport community through an enhanced HKIA Business Partners Carbon Support Programme which comprises of a HK$20 million Green Innovation and Technology Fund to support piloting of new technologies; a capacity building programme with the Business Environment Council to build essential skills and knowledge in carbon management across the airport community; and Technology Working Groups to enhance collaboration between the AA and business partners.
