AA Takes Steps to Expedite the transition to Sustainable Aviation Fuel

29  February  2024

Airport Authority (AA) recognises that the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is critical for achieving carbon reduction in the aviation sector and meeting the net-zero goals set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and International Air Transport Association. Adhere to our greenest airport pledge, AA recently joined the Hong Kong Sustainable Aviation Fuel Coalition (HKSAFC) as a founding member. This demonstrates our commitment to building a sustainable aviation hub and to supporting the use of SAF at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).

HKSAFC was developed by the Business Environment Council in collaboration with Cathay Pacific as the co-initiators. It was founded alongside 13 other partners representing various positions along the SAF value chain. HKSAFC aims to promote the use of SAF at HKIA and accelerate Hong Kong’s position as a regional and global SAF hub.

Additionally, AA’s two aviation fuel facilities at HKIA and Tuen Mun have obtained the highly acclaimed International Sustainability and Carbon Certification under ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). The two facilities provide fuelling infrastructure that enables airlines to receive, store and use pre-blended SAF at the airport. The certification affirms that SAF handled at these facilities complies with CORSIA sustainability requirements and enables traceability throughout the SAF supply chain.
