(HONG KONG, 17 August 2020, 2130hrs)  -  Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) received respective reports today that a staff of a contractor for the Three-runway System (3RS) project has been identified as a close contact of a COVID-19 patient, while a 3RS construction site security guard who was due to start duty today was confirmed to have contracted COVID-19. Relevant work areas of the abovementioned cases have already been cleaned and disinfected.

The AA was informed by China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Corporation Limited that a family member of a rigger has been tested positive for COVID-19. The rigger’s duties were related to the Automated People Mover and Baggage Handling System tunnel works of 3RS. The staff will be tested and undergo quarantine. The staff last reported duty on 15 August. Other staff of the contractor who had contact with the concerned staff will be tested and wait for results at home.  The contractor has already cleaned and disinfected relevant work areas.

Separately, AA was informed by a security contractor Clement Shield (Security Specialist & Event Organiser) Limited that a guard who was due to start duty today has contracted COVID-19. He attended an interview on 10 August. Other staff of the contractor who had contact with the concerned guard will be tested and wait for results at home. Relevant work areas and ferries that the concerned guards rode for shuttling to the work site have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

Meanwhile, the AA staff members who had undergone tests in the wake of a reported case last week concerning an AA staff driver have all tested negative, with only one test result pending as of today. As mentioned in the AA press release last week, the driver reported to AA that his family members were confirmed cases and he then went into quarantine. He was later tested positive. In addition to taking tests, AA staff members who had contact with the driver have been arranged to work from home for 14 days since last week. Deep cleaning and disinfection of the relevant vehicles, all floors and public areas of the office building, and the air-conditioning system have already been completed. Regular cleaning frequency of the office has also been stepped up.
