Airport Staff and Construction Subcontractor Staff in Quarantine and Tested after Family Members Confirmed to Have Contracted COVID-19<br>Relevant Working Areas Are Cleaned and Sanitised

(HONG KONG, 3 Aug 2020, 1700hrs)  –  Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) today received respective reports concerning an airport security staff and a construction worker employed by a subcontractor working on the Three-runway System (3RS) project whose family members have been confirmed to be infected with COVID-19. The concerned security staff and the worker are now under quarantine and waiting for COVID-19 test results. To ensure the health and safety of passengers, airport staff and workers at the relevant sites, the AA and concerned companies have arranged cleaning and disinfection in the relevant work areas as well as its vicinity.

The AA today was informed by 3RS contractor ZHEC-CCCC-CDC Joint Venture that a family member of a worker employed by one of its subcontractors had been tested positive for COVID-19. The worker had been working on deep jet grouting works. He has taken the COVID-19 test and is waiting for result. The deep jet grouting work by the subcontractor has been suspended immediately. The subcontractor is arranging other workers who had been in contact with the concerned worker to undergo COVID-19 test and wait for results at home. The relevant site office, the drilling rigs and the vessels that transport workers to and from the work site will be cleaned and disinfected.

Separately, the AA was also informed by AVSECO that a family member of an airport security staff has been tested positive for COVID-19. The staff is now under quarantine. She has taken the COVID-19 test and is waiting for result. The staff last reported duty on 31 July. The AA has arranged cleaning and disinfection in the areas where the concerned AVSECO staff had conducted duties, including the access control points at Terminal 1 Level 3, Level 6 and Level 8, as well as the South Departure Immigration Hall which is now only used for staff training. The staff visited the airport’s restaurants Tasty Congee & Noodle Wantun Shop and can.teen while she was last on duty. Tasty Congee & Noodle Wantun Shop will undergo cleaning and disinfection while can.teen has already conducted cleaning and disinfection on 1 Aug.

AVSECO will also clean and disinfect the locker room that the concerned staff has used, as well as its vicinity. AVSECO has asked other staff who have worked with the concerned staff between 25 July to 31 July to undergo COVID-19 test.

The AA has stringent guidelines for airport service providers, construction contractors and subcontractors to ensure the public health safety of airport staff and passengers.
