(HONG KONG, 17 February 2016)  –  Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA)’s service and facilities are once again recognised when it was named “Airport of the Year” at the Air Transport World Airline Industry Achievement Awards 2016. Organised by the long-established aviation magazine Air Transport World, the award applauds organisations or individuals for their outstanding performance, innovation and superior services.

In clinching the “Airport of the Year” accolade, HKIA was commended for its excellent partnership with airline customers, high standards of environmentally friendly operational practices, innovative passenger services and strong working relationships with local authorities, allowing the airport to deliver excellence and drive Hong Kong’s economic growth.

Jack So Chak-kwong, Chairman of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA), said, “The 2016 ‘Airport of the year’ award from Air Transport World is given to HKIA. This is a great honour for both the airport and the people of Hong Kong. I would like to thank the 73,000 staff working at HKIA for their dedication in making it the world’s leading airport, in terms of both its hardware and software. We will continue to make every effort to enhance our operations – including expanding the airport into a Three-runway System – to meet future traffic demand.”

As part of the AA’s commitment to continuously enhance HKIA’s facilities, Midfield Concourse commenced operations in December 2015. The new concourse is equipped with 20 parking stands and can serve an additional 10 million passengers each year. Since the commencement of operation,  Midfield Concourse have proceeded smoothly; and when operating at full capacity by March, the concourse will be able to handle about 20% of HKIA’s daily passenger flights.

Mr So added, “We will strive to continue the economic miracle of Hong Kong by supporting tourism, logistics, finance, trading and various other industries. Looking ahead, the AA will keep working closely with the Government, our business partners and stakeholders to enhance the airport’s service quality by introducing more advanced, customer-focused and environmental friendly facilities. We will ensure that HKIA remains an aviation hub of choice in Asia for many more years to come.”

The 42nd Annual Airline Industry Achievement Awards was presented on 15 February in Singapore. Established in 1974, the award recognises excellence in the air transport industry. The award winners are bestowed upon individuals and organisations that have distinguished themselves through outstanding performance, innovation, and superior service.
