(HONG KONG, 25 January 2016)  –  Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) Charity Gift Donation Campaign 2016 drew to a close today, gathering over 61,000 gifts for underprivileged children. This is the third year HKIA has held the campaign, with Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) again joining hands with Link Asset Management Limited (Link) and the Salvation Army Hong Kong and Macau Command to organise the event. Gift collection boxes were placed at HKIA Terminal 1, 10 Link REIT shopping centres and The Salvation Army Headquarters from 11 to 24 January.

Vivian Cheung, Deputy Director, Airport Operations, AA, expressed her gratitude to the airport community, members of the public and travellers for their overwhelming response and generous donations. Mrs Cheung said, “Through this territory-wide gift donation campaign, we hope to encourage sharing and caring with the local community, and especially the underprivileged.  The AA is committed to caring for the community, and we shall continue to support various local community and charity services in the future.”

Officiating the closing ceremony were Raymond Ng, Deputy General Manager, Terminal 1, AA; Gordon Wu, Director (Property Management & Operations), Link; and Envoy Simon Wong, Community Relations Director, The Salvation Army Hong Kong and Macau Command.

Speaking on the ceremony, Mr Wu said, “It is Link’s corporate vision to serve and improve the lives of those around us. Our property network serves as a valuable conduit to benefit and reach local neighbourhoods and communities. The placement of donation boxes at 10 of our major shopping centres in different districts has demonstrated this and was met with an overwhelming response and the support from our tenants and shoppers.”

The impressive number of gifts received includes toys, stationery, candies and winter clothing. Musical instruments such as violin were also collected. The gifts will be distributed to underprivileged children and their families by the Salvation Army Hong Kong and Macau Command – sharing warmth, joy and compassion during the Chinese New Year.
