HKIA Career Expo 2017 Kicks Off
Over 4,000 Vacancies For Job Seekers' Careers To Take Flight

(HONG KONG, 9 June 2017)  –  Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) and the Labour Department today jointly launched the "Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) Career Expo 2017". For its sixth year running, the three-day event at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre promotes more than 4,000 job opportunities offered by around 40 companies from the airport community. The Hong Kong International Aviation Academy (the “Academy”) also joins the Expo for the first time this year, providing course information and offering a career talk for those interested in pursuing careers in the aviation industry.

An opening ceremony was officiated by Stephen Sui, Secretary for Labour and Welfare; Wallace Lau, Deputy Secretary for Transport and Housing; and Fred Lam, Chief Executive Officer of the AA.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Sui said, "HKIA plays an essential role in the economic, trade and tourism development in Hong Kong, with some 73,000 people being employed there. More career opportunities are expected to be created alongside the Three-runway System development programme.”

Mr Lam said, “HKIA achieved record breaking year in 2016, with annual passenger throughput of over 70 million. To cope with the present and expected demand, the AA has rolled out expansion plans for the airport. We need to recruit talent of different positions and specialties to join the airport family.”

The Expo offers job opportunities covering a wide range of positions at HKIA, including cabin services, aircraft maintenance, air cargo, airport security, cleaning, baggage handling, retail sales, technical posts, engineering, catering, facilities management and more. A number of participating companies will also host career talks providing the latest information about the aviation industry, as well as career advice for job seekers.

"In addition to recruiting talent for the aviation industry, we also emphasise the training of talent. Last year, the AA established the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy, providing tailor-made courses for teenagers, new members of the airport community and practitioners, supporting the continuous development of the airport and the aviation industry. We look forward to welcoming more energetic and enthusiastic talent to join us, as we work together for an even better future for the aviation industry," added Mr Lam.

The Academy collaborates with various educational and vocational training institutions to offer a wide range of courses, of which the first batch has been rolled out in April this year. In order to attract young people to the aviation industry, the Academy will also hold aviation summer day camps to cover the four major areas of airport management – air transport; cabin crew, ground and ramp services; aircraft engineering; and aviation logistics services.

Meanwhile, the AA has been working on staff benefits to provide a safe and comfortable working environment. Over the past two years, the AA has introduced 24-hour staff rest rooms, refurbished staff canteens, and optimised transportation services with bus companies. In the future, the AA will provide even more staff facilities and services, including adding staff canteens and a multi-functional sports hall, as well as increasing the intake quota for the Airport Preschool.
