HKIA Wins Nine Best Airport Awards since Beginning of the Year
(HONG KONG, 4 November 2011) – Hong Kong International Airport’s (HKIA) dedication to providing outstanding passenger service has been recognised again, as HKIA earned another two prestigious international acclaims this month. While HKIA was acknowledged by Airports Council International (ACI) as the Inductee with Distinction in its maiden “Director General’s Roll of Excellence”, it has also scooped the “Best Airport in China” award from leading travel magazine, Business Traveller China.
HKIA has been crowned the world’s best airport more than 40 times over the years, with nine best airport titles bestowed upon Hong Kong since the beginning of this year. The most recent accolades were given by TTG, Condé Nast Traveller and SmartTravelAsia.com, in addition to the two new international awards granted in November.
Stanley Hui Hon-chung, Chief Executive Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), attributed this outstanding achievement to the relentless efforts of the airport community in pursuing excellence in every facet of passenger service.

The numerous best airport awards are a strong vote of confidence in the 65,000-staff force of the airport community. Together, we impress upon travellers from around the world that Hong Kong is a hospitable and efficient city providing world-class service.”
Mr Hui added, “To ensure that we will continue to deliver superb service to the constantly growing passenger traffic at HKIA, we will continue to work on and deepen the service culture of the airport community while enhancing the facilities at HKIA to meet the increasing demands. It is our mission to ensure that we continue to strengthen Hong Kong’s position as one of the finest regional and international aviation centres in the world, and a preferred gateway to the Mainland.”
In a ceremony held in Morocco on 1 November, fourteen airports worldwide became inductees of the ACI Director General’s Roll of Excellence which was newly launched to recognise airports that have ranked among the top five in Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Survey for five consecutive years. This induction accredits the high value the inductees have placed on the pursuit of service excellence.
Among these airports, HKIA earned the special recognition of “Inductee with Distinction” as it was named the World’s Best Airport Award serving over 40 million passengers annually for the fifth time in a row in the ASQ. The award further recognises the consistent delivery of excellent services to passengers by HKIA in the same performance category for five years consecutively.
Established in 2006, the ASQ programme was introduced to enable airports to capture customer feedback via the ASQ passenger survey. The analysis enables airports to have a better understanding of the passengers’ needs and levels of customer service.
Meanwhile, HKIA also clinched the “Best Airport in China” award from the leading publication, Business Traveller China, for the fifth time in seven years. Chosen by the magazine’s readers, the award has reaffirmed the airport’s status as a preferred gateway to the Mainland and an international and regional aviation centre. Since the magazine launched its annual survey in 2005, HKIA took home the same award in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010.
