The AA raised HK$4.27 million to support the rescue and reconstruction works in Sichuan
HKIA fund raising campaigns

A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Yushu county in Qinghai in April 2010, leaving many people dead and injured. The Airport Authority (AA) took immediate action by drawing money from its Charity Fund, matching the donation made by our staff for the quake victims. Nearly $350,000 was raised in a week’s time. The collected money was forwarded to the Hong Kong Red Cross for providing the victims with relief goods and reconstruction assistance.

In August 2009, Taiwan experienced the worst flooding in 50 years due to the hit of Typhoon Mokarot causing widespread damages in the eastern and southern parts of the region. The AA immediately held a fund raising campaign among its staff. The donation was forwarded to the Ministry of The Interior of Taiwan via Chung Hwa Travel Service, in aid of the region’s restoration works.

In 2008, the AA raised HK$4.27 million from the airport community, including AA staff, to support the rescue and reconstruction works in Sichuan, right after the magnitude 8 earthquake struck the province on 12 May. The money collected was used to support Hong Kong Red Cross China Relief Fund and the disaster fund operated by the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR.

We also held fund raising campaigns to help snowstorm victims in the Mainland in 2008 and the tsunami victims in 2004.
