Two teams from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) supported tree planting and carbon reduction efforts on 17 April 2011 by taking part in the Tree Planting Challenge organised by Friends of the Earth at Tai Lam Country Park. The teams hiked 13km, each carrying 50 seedlings – weighing over 30kg – for planting. Overall, the event saw 10,000 trees planted.

HKIA supported the creation of a 12-hectare mangrove habitat in Tai O

HKIA supported the creation of a 12-hectare mangrove habitat in Tai O. About 90,000 mangrove seedlings were planted in 2005 and 2006, increasing the diversity of inter-tidal flora and fauna in the area. We also planted 350,000 seedlings on the hill slopes of Tung Chung hill to welcome passengers with more greenery.

HKIA worked with Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Tung Chung Integrated Services to teach students in Tung Chung about organic planting

Using food compost collected from kitchens in the airport, we worked with Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Tung Chung Integrated Services to teach students in Tung Chung about organic planting.
