Greening and cleaning

56 Airport Authority (AA) staff and their family members came out in force to support the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) activity on 22 October 2011. Participants collected and removed marine debris along the coastline of Sha Lo Wan located on north Lantau Island. This is the fourth consecutive year that the AA has taken part in the ICC.
About 40 airport staff members and their families and friends spent a meaningful Saturday by planting trees in the "Island District Healthy City Tree Planting Festival – Green Lantau" event in Ngong Ping Lantau on 7 May 2011. As a supporting organisation, the AA sponsored $50,000 to promote environmental conservation in Lantau.

Two teams from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) supported tree planting and carbon reduction efforts on 17 April 2011 by taking part in the Tree Planting Challenge organised by Friends of the Earth at Tai Lam Country Park. The teams hiked 13km, each carrying 50 seedlings – weighing over 30kg – for planting. Overall, the event saw 10,000 trees planted.
To protect our marine environment, HKIA joined hands with Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, Hong Kong Wetland Park, Ngong Ping 360, the Tung Chung Safe and Healthy City and Islands District Office to clean the Tung Chung mangroves in June 2009.
