Greening and cleaning
For the fourth consecutive year, the Airport Authority (AA) extended their green spirit by taking on the "Tree Planting Challenge 2014" organised by Friends of the Earth on 27 April 2014. The AA fielded two teams to Ma On Shan Country Park on the day in full support of the event's cause of educating the general public to treasure Hong Kong's countryside and promoting awareness on environmental conservation. The unique challenge combines the activities of tree planting and hiking. Each AA team was required to plant 30 seedlings throughout a 4 kilometre hiking course within a designated time.
In support of the "Islands District Healthy City Tree Planting Festival – Green Lantau 2013" organised by the Islands District Council, AA staff members and their families joined the Tree Caring Day on 9 November 2013. In the activity, participants took a relaxing walk at Nei Lak Shan on Lantau Island, during which they were briefed on local ecology and tree conservation, as well as observed the growth of trees and helped clear the grass near the newly planted seedlings.
Two Airport Authority (AA) teams joined the "Tree Planting Challenge 2013" organised by Friends of the Earth on 21 April 2013 at Ma On Shan Country Park. Each team planted 30 seedlings and finished a designated hiking course. Sweat and thrills made an ordinary Sunday green and meaningful for all.
On 13 April 2013, around 35 AA volunteers and family members participated in the "Islands District Healthy City Tree Planting Festival - Green Lantau 2013". Organised by the Islands District Council and Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, the event aimed at promoting environmental awareness while giving participants a chance to take in the beautiful sights at Nei Lak Shan on Lantau Island.
