Environmental Fund

The Hong Kong International Airport Environmental Fund, established by the Airport Authority Hong Kong in 2011, provides funding support for projects, activities and initiatives that promote environmental protection, green living and a sustainable lifestyle in Hong Kong.

Local non-profit making organisations (e.g. environmental groups, community bodies, schools, etc) are welcome to apply. For details, please refer to the Application Guide and the Application Form.

Transforming food waste at Hong Kong International Airport into value-added chemicals
Name of Applicant : The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Brief Description : This project aims to develop innovative technologies for recycling and valorizing food waste collected in Hong Kong International Airport. Within the framework of food waste dewatering, the dewatered solids will be transformed into value-added marketable chemicals by physicochemical conversion processes. The scientific findings produced by this project will promote circular economy and sustainability for the society.

Monitoring of terrestrial non-native insect species in Hong Kong
Name of Applicant : School of Biological Sciences, The University of Hong Kong
Brief Description : Monitor native and exotic communities of ants and moths at Hong Kong International Airport and the surrounding habitats. Develop awareness on the ecological impacts of invasive species and prevent their establishment and habitat expansion through the development of web-based tools for professionals and the general public.
