Operational Records

Hong Kong International Airport has been ranked as the busiest airport for international air cargo since 1996. In 2007, HKIA handled 3.7 million tonnes of freight. Air cargo took up around 1.3% of Hong Kong's total cargo throughput, it accounted for 35% of its total external trade value at HK$1,946 billion in 2007.

Timely Infrastructure Expansion

New Cargo Terminal

  • Cathay Pacific Services Limited has been awarded the franchise
  • The investment cost for the state-of-the-art cargo terminal will be about HK$4.8 billion
  • Land area of about 100,000 m2
  • Annual capacity of about 2.6 million tonnes
  • Over 400 jobs will be created during terminal construction
  • More than 1,700 people will be employed when operational
  • Completion by mid 2011

 

Addition of Cargo Stands and Taxiways

  • HK$ 3 billion investment
  • Ten new cargo stands commenced operation in 2007. Number of cargo stands has increased from 24 to 34.

1st Tier Cargo Handling

Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd ("HACTL")

  • Designed capacity: 2.6 million tonnes per annum
  • HK$ 8 billion investment
  • State-of-the-art automated cargo handling system
  • SuperTerminal 1 is the world’s largest stand-alone air cargo handling facility
  • Land area of 170,000 sq.m. and gross floor area of 330,000 sq.m.
  • Special cargo handling facilities - strong / cold / freezer / dangerous goods / radioactive rooms, perishable and live animal centre, mini-shipment centres
  • SuperLink China Direct - one-stop cargo service to/from PRD
  • Awarded Technology Asset Protection Association Certification (TAPA)


Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd ("AAT")

  • Designed capacity: 1.51 million tonnes per annum (T1+T2)
  • Total investment over HK$2.5 billion to build T1 and T2
  • State-of-the-art fully automated cargo handling system
  • Land area of about 80,000 sq.m. and gross floor area of about 170,000 sq.m.
  • AAT T2 equips with the world' s tallest elevated transfer vehicles (44m height) x 4 which is about the same height of a 15- storey standard building
  • Special cargo handling facilities - strong / cold / freezer / dangerous goods / radioactive rooms, perishable / mini-shipment centres, live animal storage
  • ChinaLink - one-stop service to/from PRD

DHL Central Asia Hub

  • First dedicated express cargo terminal at HKIA
  • Total investment over HK$1.6 billion
  • Land area of about 35,000 sq.m. after expansion
  • Handle over 35,000 parcels and 40,000 documents per hour
  • Awarded Technology Asset Protection Association Certification (TAPA)
  • Become the first large scale automated express hub in Asia Pacific
  • Completion for the revamp of the existing facility by mid 2008


Air Mail Hub

  • Operated by Hongkong Post
  • Equipped with state-of-the-art mail sorting system
  • Land area of about 20,000 sq.m.
  • Handle 700,000 mail items per day

2nd Tier Cargo Handling

Marine Cargo Terminal ("MCT")

  • Operated by Chu Kong Air-Sea Union Transprtation Co.Ltd (CKSA)
  • Provide one-stop multimodal service linking with 17 PRD ports
  • Round the clock operations with capacity of 150,000 tonnes per annum
  • 450 metres quay front for berthing

 

 

Airport Freight Forwarding Centre (AFFC)

  • Provide cargo warehousing and logistics operations
  • Enable freight forwarder to undertake consolidation and distribution at the airport
  • Land area of about 6 hectare (including landing platforms and truck parking bays)
  • Gross floor area: 139,000 sq.m.

 

Tradeport Logistic Centre

  • Operated by Tradeport Hong Kong Limited
  • Provide a wide range and custom-designed logistics services such as inventory management, order processing and postponement assembly
  • Land area: 1.38 hectare in the South Commercial District of the airport
  • Gross floor area: 31,400 sq.m.

Hong Kong International Airport – Suzhou Industrial Park Direct Link

  • Airport Authority Hong Kong and Suzhou Industrial Park Administration Comission have cooperated to develop the direct link
  • The Direct Link, in connect with the air cargo collection and distribution station at Suzhou Industrial Park Bonded Logistics Centre, extending the excellent air services of Hong Kong International Airport to Suzhou Industrial Park as well as the whole YRD

  1. Truck Queuing Time - The waiting time of a truck at the parking area to truck dock assigned.
  2. Export Cargo Reception - The waiting time of a consignor/ shipper/ trucker, after registered at CTO reception points, to be served for the first piece of cargo.
  3. Import Cargo Collection - The waiting time of a consignee/ trucker, after submitted Shipment Release Form (SRF) at import collection points, to receive the first piece of cargo.
  4. Empty ULD Release Time - The waiting time of a trucker, after submitted Unit Release Form (URF) at the ULD collection points, to receive the first empty unit loading device.
  5. Cargo Breakdown Time
    a.  General Cargo - Time to complete the breakdown of general cargo on passenger/ freighter after flight actual time of arrival (ATA).
    b.  Perishable Cargo - Time to complete the breakdown of perishable cargo after flight actual time of arrival (ATA).
