Hong Kong International Airport has been ranked as the busiest airport for international air cargo since 1996. In 2007, HKIA handled 3.7 million tonnes of freight. Air cargo took up around 1.3% of Hong Kong's total cargo throughput, it accounted for 35% of its total external trade value at HK$1,946 billion in 2007.

New Cargo Terminal
- Cathay Pacific Services Limited has been awarded the franchise
- The investment cost for the state-of-the-art cargo terminal will be about HK$4.8 billion
