Dr So says that with the commencement of the construction of HKIA's Three-runway System project, and the continuous and rapid development of the civil aviation industry, the demand for talent in the industry will progressively increase and create abundant job opportunities.
Mr Lam says that the Expo is a great occasion particularly for young people who are interested in the aviation industry to explore career opportunities.
The Expo features an exhibition of HKIA’s 20th anniversary, showcasing the milestones of HKIA’s development since it moved from Kai Tak.
The three-day Expo showcases more than 4,500 job openings offered by more than 50 participating companies from the airport community.

(HONG KONG, 29 June 2018) – Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) and the Labour Department today jointly launched the seventh annual "Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) Career Expo 2018" (the Expo), a three-day event at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, promoting some 4,500 job openings at more than 50 companies across the airport community. Dr Law Chi-kwong, Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Dr Raymond So, Under Secretary for Transport and Housing and Fred Lam, Chief Executive Officer of the AA, officiated at the opening ceremony.

Dr Law noted that with the overall unemployment rate in Hong Kong at a record low in over 20 years and the continuous recovery of inbound tourism, the Expo is timely in attracting valuable young talent to join various aviation-related industries that offer good potential of development.

Dr So said, "With the commencement of the construction of HKIA's Three-runway System (3RS) project, and the continuous and rapid development of the civil aviation industry, the demand for talent in the industry will progressively increase and create abundant job opportunities. Through this event, I hope job seekers and members of the public would be introduced to various positions offered by the aviation industry." He also encouraged members of the public to join the industry thereby injecting new impetus to it with a view to building a stronger foundation for Hong Kong to develop as an aviation hub.

Mr Lam said, “We are envisioning significant changes at HKIA in the coming years. With continuous growth of the airport’s services driven by more passengers and cargo every year and the future commissioning of important developments like the 3RS, SKYCITY and the premium logistics centre, more jobs will be generated in different sectors such as maintenance, ground services, logistics, guest services, retail and more. This is a great occasion particularly for young people who are interested in the aviation industry to explore career opportunities.”

The Expo offers a wide range of job openings at HKIA in areas including inflight services, aircraft maintenance, airfreight, airport security, baggage delivery, retail, technical services, mechanical engineering, information technology, construction and catering. A number of companies will host on-site interviews, while some will host career talks that will be open to all job seekers and members of the public.

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of HKIA’s relocation to Chek Lap Kok, the Expo also features an exhibition of how the airport has grown since it moved from Kai Tak. The exhibition showcases the milestones of HKIA’s development, its 73,000 dedicated staff members from around the airport community, the accomplishments and accolades the airport has achieved over the past 20 years, and its future development plans.

To attract more people to the aviation industry, the AA has been working to enhance the work environment at the airport, on matters such as traffic arrangements, staff canteens, leisure facilities and family-friendly initiatives such as the Airport Preschool and EduCare, the after-school care programme for Tung Chung primary school students whose parents are working at HKIA. The AA also established the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy and started courses in April 2017, which has since offered over 200 courses to more than 7,400 participants.
