(HONG KONG, 27 June 2016)   –  The efficiency excellence and outstanding cargo service performance of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) are once again recognised in prestigious international awards. Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) is pleased to announce that HKIA recently received the “Top Asian Airport Efficiency Excellence Award” from the Air Transport Research Society (ATRS), and was named the “Best Global Airport” by Asia Cargo News.

Fred Lam, Chief Executive Officer of the AA, said, “These awards are the result of the collective effort and dedication of our 73,000-strong airport staff, who work closely together to achieve consistently high levels of service - increasing passenger satisfaction and delivering efficient cargo operations.”    HKIA won the “Top Asian Airport Efficiency Excellence Award” in ATRS’s Global Airport Benchmarking Report, which marks the sixth time HKIA has taken up this top honour since the award’s establishment in 2003. Compiled by a task force comprising leading international academia, the Report measures and compares the operating and managerial efficiency, cost competitiveness, financial performance and airport user charges of more than 200 airports across Asia Pacific, Europe and North America.

ATRS is a leading academic society in the air transport field. Now in its 20th year, the organisation was established to enhance multi-national and multi-disciplinary research capability on air transportation matters.   Meanwhile, HKIA has also been named the “Best Global Airport” in The Asian Freight, Logistics & Supply Chain Awards (AFLAS) 2016 organised by Asia Cargo News. HKIA was commended on its cost competitiveness, cargo-friendly fee regime and provision of suitable cargo-related infrastructure, as well as its timely and adequate investment in new infrastructure to meet future demand.

A prestigious industry-wide award of the air cargo and logistics industry, the accolade honours awardees’ development in cargo-related infrastructure, cost competitiveness and facilitation of air cargo ancillary services.   Mr Lam said, “Looking ahead, we will continue to explore different ways to further enhance HKIA’s passenger airport experience and operational efficiency, including leveraging new technologies and innovations. Some newly introduced facilities, like self-bag drop and mobile check-in agents, have made the check-in process faster and easier. We have also implemented applications to capture real-time operational data, allowing the airport community to deploy resources more effectively. On the other hand we will continue to work with our business partners to further improve cargo facilities and leverage new technology to streamline processing time, with a view to maintaining HKIA’s status as an international and regional aviation hub.”
